Owner, Clinical Herbalist
Maria is the owner and creator of Garden Root Remedy’s herbal medicine & health products. She has worked in health care for 32 years and her background is in Primary Care & Rheumatology. Maria’s interest in herbal remedies has grown in recent years as she began researching alternative medicine to help with her overall patient care. She offers different ways to manage chronic illness and to maintain quality of life with or without Western Medicine.
Herbalism offers more solutions and treatment options within the science of medicine. Maria’s goal is to work with clients to understand their healthcare needs and determine where herbal medicine can fit into their current treatment plan, or in some cases manage solely the symptoms they may be experiencing. The overall purpose of GRR is to give patients the best quality of life outcomes by using a more natural, holistic approach to treatment.
Maria has been an avid gardener for over 32 years. She resides in Arizona, where the growing season is 365 days a year! Understanding herbs, plants, and flowers is her passion. Maria has taken it a step further with herbal medicine by growing her own herbs organically in her own garden. Intentional herbal medicine through organic, local gardening was top on her list for getting deep into her own health and for launching a successful business.

Gina is Maria's daughter who has recently joined in on her mom's herbal adventure to help with business development and growth. Gina is passionate about alternative medicine and the quality of life that herbs can provide long-term. You will also see Gina working alongside Maria, making herbal remedies and future consultations!

Herbal Medicine is the art and science of using herbs for promoting health, while preventing and treating illness. The practice of using herbal supplements dates back thousands of years. Studies show that 75% of the world’s population still rely primarily upon traditional healing practices, most of which is herbal medicine. Herbal medicine is not for everyone however. Many prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines are also made from plant products, but these products generally only contain the purified ingredient regulated by the FDA. Herbal supplements on the other hand contain the entire plant or plant parts (flowers, leaves, roots).
Herbal supplements come in many forms which may be dried, chopped, powdered, capsule, or liquid and used in various ways such as: Teas, bitters, tinctures, powders, pills, topical preparations, and may be added to bath water.
Herbal supplements can be used successfully for conditions such as: digestion, fatigue, insomnia, hormone regulation, mental health, immune system, arthritis, headaches, metabolism regulation, colds, flu, coughs, etc. just to name a few.
The cost of using herbs to manage everyday medical concerns is small compared to the cost associated with pharmaceuticals and the potential side effects that come along with Western Medicine. Understanding disease processes and where western medicine has its place and where herbal medicine can complement can be very rewarding and lead to improved outcomes.

Herbal tinctures take about 2-3 weeks to build up within a person's body. Everyone's body will react a little differently to each tincture formulation.

Many tincture products contain alcohol (i.e. vodka) as the base ingredient. In the event that alcohol is contraindicated with your current health treatments, or even personal reasons, the herbs can be added to other menstruums (bases) at your request. We are happy to accommodate our customers!
