Arthritis & Pain Relief The Herbal Way

When it comes to generalized pain and even arthritic joint pains, the options for relief are often daunting with respect to the side effects for long term use. Sure, every remedy or medication has it's purpose and place within one's treatment plan, BUT what if we told you that herbs can help your pain problem too?

As I go through my herbal journey I am amazed at the response to symptom management with concentrated herbal remedies for osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis. There are differences between the two types of arthritis. Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis. OA most often appears in the weight-bearing joints like the knees, hips, spine, and hands. Cartilage destruction, as well as the development of bone spurs on the joints are a primary source of pain.

"Herbs are alkalizing, anti-inflammatory, effective for over-acid conditions, adrenal gland nourishment because arthritic inflammation is evidence that the body is not producing enough natural cortisone."

OA in general leads to stiffness and cracking of the joints with movement. This can be exacerbated by weather changes and can worsen with prolonged activity. OA in general affects women more than men. Men can increase that number with just 20 extra pounds the body is carrying. This can double the risk of hip and knee OA. The ability of the body to repair itself can lead to improvement. Ensuring food allergies are not affecting your body chemistry and a routine detox followed by a healthy diet with plenty of organic fresh vegetables.

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) affects up to 1% of all Americans. Women are affected more than 2 times than men. RA is a chronic, auto-immune, inflammatory disease which targets the joint lining synovial membrane. When this area becomes inflamed it damages bone nearby as well as cartilage. This results in pain, stiffness, loss of movement, and eventually destruction of multiple joints. RA can also damage blood vessels and the lining of the heart and lungs. RA patients can also have problems affecting their digestive system, fatigue, anemia, ulcerative colitis, chronic lung disease, bronchial congestion, and liver problems.

A combination of mineral depletion, gland and hormone imbalance, prolonged use of corticosteroids which can eventually impair the body’s own ability to heal. Corticosteroids are often prescribed with inflammatory arthritis conditions that can lead to long term effects such as calcium depletion, bone weakening, adrenal suppression which as just discussed is the primary cause of arthritis in the first place.

Herbal therapies, along with lifestyle changes, however, do work extremely well, addressing the causes of arthritis while reducing pain and discomfort. Herbs assist with detoxification and improve the body’s chemistry. The herbs that I personally use in the treatment of arthritis and pain management dissolve and flush out inorganic mineral deposits, and help replace them with non-mucus forming nutrients. Herbs are alkalizing, anti-inflammatory, effective for over-acid conditions, adrenal gland nourishment because arthritic inflammation is evidence that the body is not producing enough natural cortisone.
