Have you ever wanted to know what you can create to keep on hand in case a cold or flu decides to disrupt your life? What if we told you that an herbal "Fire Tonic" is just what you need to stay healthy and have on hand as school season begins and summer fades into fall? Continue reading for some herbal magic...

I can’t believe it's time to think about kids going back to school already! With a return to school, we generally see an uptick in colds and flus. I thought it would be a good time to bring in Fire Cider into the fold! Fire Cider is considered a herbal tonic that is used to help boost immunity, aid in digestion, and warm you from the inside out. The basic recipe for Fire Cider should include horseradish, ginger, garlic, and onions that are brewed in apple cider vinegar. There are many variations that will include other herb and botanical sources.

After much research I think I came up with a great combination that gives immune support but also acts as an #antibacterial, #antiviral, #antifungal, #anti-inflammatory, #antimicrobial, #antioxidant, #expectorant, rich in Vitamin C, supports digestive health, and improves circulation.

My additions to the basic ingredients include: turmeric root, jalapeños and serranos to warm the body and increase circulation, lemon peel and juice to increase Vitamin C content, beet root powder and rose hips for an extra punch of immune support as well as cleansing activities, rosemary for the restorative properties it possesses, bay leaf as a stomach stimulant, elderberries to work as a powerful anti-viral that aids in clearing mucus and promotes perspiration when fevers exist, and schisandra berries which are thought to improve physical and mental stamina and clarity, aids in clearing respiratory infections, and managing respiratory symptoms.

The menstrum used for Fire Cider is apple cider vinegar, which draws out the beneficial properties of the botanicals and herbs we are using. After the ingredients have brewed for 14-30 days, the cider is ready to be strained and consumed daily. The normal “dosing” of the Fire Cider is about ½ fluid ounce daily or can be taken at the first sign of mucus buildup or other respiratory symptoms and every couple of hours thereafter until the symptoms resolve.

There are many brands and formulas that can be purchased online, as well as recipes, that if interested, you can make yourself. If you are not crafty or have no desire to purchase a random brand, then I would love to help you out. We sell Fire Cider too!
